Germany handed over five mobile clinics to the Iraqi Ministry of Health at the weekend (12/13 March), thus providing up to 45,000 people in three Iraqi provinces per month with better access to healthcare once again.
This was good news for the people in the provinces of Diyala, Nineweh and Saladin, who will have more reliable access to medical care from now on thanks to the mobile clinic units. In his speech, Milan Simandl, Chargé d’affaires at the German Embassy Baghdad, thanked the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health, the National Operations Centre (NOC) and province officials, who provided outstanding support in planning and carrying out the project.
Stabilising the liberated areas is a priority of the support Germany is providing to Iraq. As co-chair of the Stabilisation Working Group, Germany coordinates international support with the Iraqi Government. Germany has donated 11 million euros so far, and is thus one of the largest donors to the United Nations’ Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization (FFIS). Further financial support and projects in the fields of electricity, health and water supply are planned.
