Iraq: Direct Relief's programme activities update Dec 2002

Recipient: Saint Raphael Hospital and Mother Teresa Orphanage
Shipment Date: 12/4/2002
Value: $28,705
In the current climate of uncertainty as to the status of Iraq in the world community, and the possibility of a huge humanitarian crisis as a result of conflict, Direct Relief has continued to provide essential drugs and supplies to the St. Raphael Hospital and the Mother Teresa Orphanage. This is the fourth hand-delivered shipment to the two facilities which are located on the same street in Baghdad. Both facilities have been experiencing a shortage of critically needed medical goods for years and have been extremely grateful for Direct Relief's annual donations. Hoping to stock up on some of the most essential drugs, Sister Maryanne Pierre, the Dominican nun who serves as the director of St. Raphael Hospital, requested respiratory drugs, antibiotics, analgesics, gastrointestinal agents, essential supplies including needles and syringes, and diagnostic equipment such as stethoscopes and blood pressure units. These items will be shared with the Mother Teresa Orphanage.
