Operation Mercy is running a Needs Assessment
Training programme in Jordan. Four Non Government Organisations (NGOs)
have come together to join with Operation Mercy in Jordan for two days,
to prepare for the impending threat of war. We have flown in people from
Turkey to train the group.
The focus of the training is to get
people ready to go into Iraq and carry out a Needs Assessment, as soon
as the borders open and it is safe to do so. At the completion of the training
the participants will be on call awaiting the opening of the borders.
Operation Mercy is in consultation with the UN and other NGOs. We are working in partnership with UNICEF and will have a team working in a refugee camp on the Jordanian border. The Operation Mercy team will consist of 15 Jordanians and 5 foreign workers.
We would like to emphasise that as soon as the borders open we will be sending people in to carry out the Needs Assessment in the Southern area of Iraq, focusing on health needs. This, however, will not affect the work in the refugee camp, we will continue to work here with UNICEF.
