The worsening security situation in parts of northern and central Iraq has caused mass internal displacement across much of the country. With the view to inform the humanitarian response, the REACH Initiative is conducting rapid assessments on displacement trends and priority needs of Internally Displaced Person (IDPs).
The city of Sulaymaniyah is located in Sulaymaniyah governorate. According to the government, IDPs in the city have to be sponsored and should provide proof of financial means to stay in the area. For the most part IDPs are spread out across the city. REACH teams rapidly deployed to Sulaymaniyah on 26 June and assessed 167 families (850 individuals) living in hotel rooms, rented or owned apartments, or being hosted by family.
