*MOSUL - A car bomb exploded and wounded eight people at a market east of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

*MOSUL - An Iraqi army soldier killed a militant who tried to throw a hand grenade at an army patrol in northern Mosul, police said.

*MOSUL - Five civilians were wounded by an explosion that targeted a police patrol in central Mosul, police said.

KIRKUK - A pair of roadside bombs targeting police in southern Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, killed three policemen and wounded six other people, police said.
