Jan 3 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 1200 GMT on Sunday.
BAGHDAD - A sniper from Iraqi security forces accidentally shot and wounded a security guard in a passing official convoy near Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone, where many government offices and the U.S. Embassy are located, police said.
The convoy returned fire but no one else was hurt, police said.
Baghdad's security operations centre said a military convoy was in the area and fired shots into the air, but denied that anyone was hurt.
MOSUL - Gunmen killed three men working as guards for a local Iraqi construction company, and then burned their bodies in a small town west of the city of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.
MOSUL - Police found the body of a man who had been strangled to death in western Mosul.
MOSUL - A mortar round landed in western Mosul and wounded a shepherd, police said.
