* BAGHDAD - Iraqi forces captured a man, identified as a Syrian national, in western Baghdad who was planning to detonate a car bomb, the Baghdad operations centre said on Thursday.

MOSUL - Gunmen shot dead a Christian man and wounded another man in Mosul, 390 km (240 mile) north of Baghdad, police said.

KERBALA - A roadside bomb went off near a restaurant, killing one person and wounding five others, including two religious pilgrims, in a small town near the holy city of Kerbala, 80 km (50 miles) southwest of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A motorbike laden with explosives killed one Shi'ite pilgrim and wounded five others on Wednesday evening in the al-Ilaam district of southern Baghdad, police said. The day before, police has reported the explosion was caused by a roadside bomb and that it had merely wounded five people.
