*BAGHDAD - A U.S. military statement said U.S. forces detained four suspected gunmen during an operation in the Sadr City district of Baghdad. It said they they were suspected members of a network known for facilitating the transport of explosively formed projectiles from Iran to Iraq. The statement earlier said U.S. forces had detained seven suspected gunmen.

FALLUJA - Three U.S. Marines were killed in combat in the volatile western Anbar province on Thursday, the U.S. military said.

MUSSAYAB - Gunmen killed three people when they shot at a house belonging to a guard of MP Ezat Shahbandar from the Iraqi National List, a political bloc headed by former Prime Minister Iyad Allawi. The attack took place in Mussayab, 60 km (40 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHAD - A security detainee died on Thursday at Camp Bucca, a military detention centre in southern Iraq, after he was apparently assaulted by other prisoners, the U.S. military said.

NEAR KIRKUK - A local human rights activist was shot dead by gunmen near his home, 70 km (45 miles) southwest of Kirkuk, police said.
