On March 28, an Air Serv King Air aircraft
and crew arrived in Amman, Jordan, ready to respond to the humanitarian
needs in Iraq following the current conflict. An Antonov AN-12 cargo
aircraft is positioned in Bahrain, and a second Air Serv King Air will
be in Kuwait a week from now.
For the past several months, working
primarily with the US Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, Care, Mercy
Corps, Save the Children, International Rescue Committee, International
Medical Corps, and the International Office for Migration, Air Serv prepared
to provide assistance to the Iraqi people and the humanitarian agencies
that will need safe, secure transport of relief workers, emergency relief
materials, food, and medicines throughout the region. Air Serv established
offices and operating permissions in both Jordan and Kuwait, and will begin
flight operations under a grant from USAID's Office of Foreign Disaster
Assistance.
