An AmeriCares relief shipment recently
arrived in Kirkuk, Iraq. The aid, as requested by the Kirkuk Department
of Health, included antibacterials, blood packs, hospital sheets and gowns,
pain medicine, IV apparatus, anesthetic and medicines to treat chronic
illness. In addition to the medical aid, the shipment included soccer balls
and other recreational equipment, school supplies and personal hygiene
products donated by children from schools in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
To date, AmeriCares has delivered over
$8.3 million of aid to Iraq via airlifts and ground shipments to Baghdad
and Kirkuk. Both airlifts were the first by a U.S. nongovernment organization
after the military victory was declared.
