ADRA prepares response to possible humanitarian crisis in Iraq

Silver Spring, MD -- The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is preparing to respond to a potential humanitarian crisis that could be sparked from a war in Iraq. An ADRA assessment team is currently in Iraq to determine potential areas of intervention.
A second disaster relief team is working with the ADRA global network and its partners to secure funding, and to coordinate a response to the potential crisis. "ADRA is prepositioning itself to meet the needs of the Iraqi people and determining ways to respond effectively and efficiently in the event of hostilities," said Frank Teeuwen, Bureau Chief for Disaster Preparedness and Response for ADRA International.

ADRA has been working in northern Iraq since 1995. Projects have focused on reconstruction, including the building of four towns, five schools, and four health centers, despite difficult access to the region.
