About 100 Azerbaijani peacekeepers are due to leave for Iraq on Wednesday. They will be protecting order in Iraq as part of the U.S. coalition forces. This will make number of Azeri peacekeepers in Iraq 250.

Azerbaijani peacekeepers are currently engaged in ensuring stability mainly in Karkuk, Najaf and Karbala, territories populated by Turkmans, as well as historic and religious monuments. They are also serving as post-patrol forces, which protect order and accompany transportation of consignments.
