ILAM, Oct. 22 (IRCS) _ Due to last night’s storm and heavy rain which triggered flood, Red Crescent distributed nearly 4,000 blankets and ground sheets in the border terminal of Mehran City, Ilam Province, among the pilgrims who are travelling to Iraq for Arbaeen Pilgrimage.
Underlining distribution of 3,500 blankets and 400 ground sheets among the flood-affected pilgrims, Hossein Arefi, managing director of Ilam provincial Red Crescent branch, said: “All of the relief workers are in alert, and they are ready to offer relief to people and pilgrims.”
In total, Red Crescent offered relief to 5,680 pilgrims during last night’s storm. The pilgrims were transferred by Red Crescent ambulances and were sheltered in mosques and schools.
Iranian Red Crescent recently loaded a 200-ton consignment of medicine and medical supplies destined for Iraq to provide health services to the pilgrims of the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (a.s.), the third Shia Imam, in the religious Arbaeen pilgrimage, a shia Muslim religious observance that occurs forty days after the Day of Ashura.
