Overview
A ceasefire between Israel and Iran officially took effect on 24 June, although little is known as to the details surrounding the agreement. In view of the humanitarian impact of any possible resumption of hostilities, humanitarian partners continue to strengthen their response readiness efforts.
Before the ceasefire, the hostilities between Israel and Iran resulted in civilian casualties in both Iran and Israel and forced millions to flee their homes in search of safety away from hostilities. Furthermore, UNHCR reports a dramatic increase in the number of Afghans returning from Iran since hostilities began on 13 June. On 26 June alone, some 36,100 Afghans returned in just a day.
As of the time of reporting, the IAEA and relevant national nuclear monitoring entities have reaffirmed that no radioactive contamination has been detected.
