The Japanese Red Cross Society said Sunday it will send an advance medical team to Iran as part of its support for refugees from Iraq in Iran in the wake of the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

The three-member advance team will leave Japan on Monday and is part of a 13-member team comprising doctors and nurses the society intends to dispatch for refugee concerns, the society said.

It said that the team will hold talks in Tehran with the Norwegian Red Cross, with which it will conduct its refugee relief operations, and that it will inspect areas of Iran's border with Iraq.
