ZAHEDAN, Nov. 5 (IRCS) _ Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) donated 18,000 stationery packages to the students of drought-affected province of Sistan and Baluchestan.
On Students Day (November 4) in Iran, during a visit to the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, head of the IRCS Youth Organization Dr. Shahaboddin Sabounchi and the organization’s pre-school and student deputy Saeed Babaie donated stationery packages to the students in Zahedan and Saravan counties.
In total, Iranian Red Crescent distributed 18,000 of the packages among the province’s students.
“Since we [IRCS Youth Organization] are one of the most important school-student and university-student bodies in the country, it is necessary to pay attention to the students particularly those who are living in deprived regions,” said Sabounchi.
Sistan and Baluchestan province has been suffering an unprecedented drought for 20 years, and farmers are in a challenging wrestle with the crisis. The drought has caused many problems for the deprived villagers in the province.
In August, Iranian Red Crescent implemented a “Water Offering Campaign” across the drought-affected regions in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, collecting cash contributions and in-kind offerings from the public (donation of water tank or water bottles) to improve region's water conditions and livelihood of the local people. IRCS also dispatched 19 health caravans from different provinces to Sistan and Baluchestan.
