Iran Quake - Kerman Province: Information Bulletin n° 2

The situation Report

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake hit the Hijdak area located in Kerman province on Friday, 1st December 2017 at 06:02 a.m. local time. So far the occurrence of 190 aftershocks in Kerman has been registered since then, with the biggest of that scales 5.5 on the Richter according to the Iranian seismological center.

Based on the report, 21 villages have been damaged in Hijdak district in the city of Ravar. No death tool has been reported yet and 51 persons have been injured.

Following the occurrence of the quake, Relief and Rescue Organisation of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) in response operations deployed 14 operational teams (includes 70 operational relief forces, 40 relief vehicles, 6 ambulances, rescue dogs and 1 helicopter). The operational teams reached 21 villages. 760 persons have been provided with emergency sheltering by distributing 152 tents.

Relief and food items are distributed among earthquake affected people, dispatched from 6 provincial branches. The distributed items were 810 blankets, 230 ground sheets, 103 heaters, 284 tins of canned food, 136 boxes of bread and 288 drinking bottles.

Five neighbouring provincial branches of the IRCS are on standby following receiving quake alert to send search and rescue teams and relief items for any possible rescue and relief operation. These branches are linked together via video conference to monitor the situation.

In addition to improve the relief operations and respond to the needs of the affected people, IRCS has been in contact with Iran Meteorological Organisation for information on the cold weather conditions and other engaged authorities such as information on traffics for accessible areas to affected areas.
