Iran – Earthquake (GDACS, USGS, Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 1 December 2017)

  • A strong earthquake of magnitude 6 M at a depth of 10 km hit central Iran on 1 December at 2.32 UTC. The epicenter was located approximately 58 km north-northeast of Kerman city (Kerman province), which has a population of 821 000 people. USGS PAGER indicates shaking up to "Strong" for 1 000 people and up to "Moderate" for 709 000 people. The earthquake was followed by an aftershock of magnitude 5 M at a depth of 10 km at 2.43 UTC.

  • There are no immediate reports of casualties or damages.

  • The Iran-Iraq border was devastated by an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 M on 12 November which killed 530 people and injured 9 397 people.
