Iran – Earthquake (GDACS, USGS, IRSC, Iranian Red Crescent, Local Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 27 August 2018)
An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 M at a depth of 10 km occurred in the western Iranian region of Kermanshah on 25 August at 22.13 UTC. The epicentre was located 6 km south-west of the village of Nesfeh Kar and 26 km south-west of Javanrud city. The US Geological Survey's PAGER earthquake monitoring system estimated that 4 000 people experienced very strong shaking and 30 000 strong shaking.
According to media reports, as of 27 August, two people were killed and over 300 people were injured in Kermanshah province.
Mountain areas close to the border with Iraq were also hit by an earthquake of magnitude 7.3 M on 12 November 2017 which killed more than 600 people.
