Torrential rain over the past few weeks
has caused rivers to overflow in several districts of northern Iran. According
to the Iranian Red Crescent, the floods have killed 43 people and injured
105. More than 3,600 homes have been destroyed along with roads,
farmland and forest.
Iranian Red Crescent relief and rescue
teams were immediately dispatched to the affected regions to distribute
basic food and relief items, to resettle victims and to look for missing
people. The rescue operation continues, but, according to the National
Society, no international assistance is needed at this time.
