New York, July 17, 1997 -- Lutheran World Relief quilts will cover earthquake victims in Iran,
thanks to LWR's collaboration with the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). A shipment of
quilts valued at over $35,000 is on its way to Iran in response to an earthquake which shook the
country in early May. The quake, which measured over 7.1 on the Richter scale, caused over
1,500 deaths and left another 50,000 people homeless. The shipment of almost 4,000 quilts will
be distributed by the MCC and the Iranian Red Crescent Society. Lutheran World Relief works
overseas in relief and development on behalf of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and
The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.
