Highlights
• To advocate for innovative solutions like the climate field school programme in West Kalimantan province, WFP together with government and local partners is empowering people with knowledge of climate patterns and early warning systems, to mitigate the impact of climate change on agriculture.
Operational Updates
• Following the successful completion of the first batch of the anticipatory action climate field school in West Kalimantan, WFP continued its support for the second batch, which focuses on applying climate information and early warnings to agricultural practices, particularly for planting in swamp and rainfed areas. WFP held meetings with the Provincial Food Security Agency and the Regional Planning Development Agency to explore integration of supply chain adaptation within the government’s priority initiatives and the implementation of anticipatory action.
• As part of a joint initiative with the Ministry of Health, WFP conducted a desk review and baseline data collection in collaboration with partner communications agency Tulodo. This initiative aligns with the National Strategy for Accelerating Stunting Prevention and the Healthy Indonesia Movement. The research aimed to gain insights into young people's knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour towards healthy food and physical activity. The analysis will inform a related social and behaviour change strategy.
• WFP continued its technical assistance to the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency in strengthening its impact-based forecasting analysis to mitigate disaster risks.
Discussions were held to integrate an ensemble model for flood forecasting, in the agency's early warning system, which will improve flood prediction, thereby strengthening Indonesia’s overall disaster preparedness and response framework.
• WFP continued to support the government of East Nusa Tenggara province through its Provincial Climate Change task force by facilitating the integration of the consolidated livelihood exercise in analyzing resilience baseline results in the local government's long- term development planning document. WFP’s efforts focus on incorporating these results in 13 out of 22 districts within the province, thereby enhancing the region’s climate resilience
