Operational Updates
• The Jambi Provincial Logistics Cluster launch resulted in the signing of commitments from all cluster members, proposed priorities for 2023, and cluster work plans. During the launch, WFP and the National Disaster Management Agency facilitated knowledge sharing on lessons learned and best practices from other provinces, particularly on the importance of commitment from cluster members as a key aspect of sustainability.
• WFP also supported the Meteorological,
Climatological and Geophysical Agency in expanding the application of Impact Based Forecasting products at the provincial level by facilitating a workshop with the Jakarta Provincial Government. During the workshop, WFP and government stakeholders discussed how to utilize the data from the Agency’s early warning systems to enhance disaster response and mitigation strategies, specifically for local contexts.
• WFP conducted a Food Security and Vulnerability Atlas (FSVA) Utilization and Climate Change Adaptation mission in East Nusa Tenggara. During the mission, WFP provided capacity strengthening to the Regional Government on the integration of FSVA data into existing Government disaster maps and dashboards. WFP also engaged with the Government on the development process of a regional climate change adaptation plan. This included a discussion on the Consolidated Livelihood Exercise for Analysing Resilience (CLEAR+) that will inform the plan.
• WFP presented key findings and recommendations from the Small Area Estimation (SAE) Review report to the Ministry of National Development Planning, Statistics Indonesia, and Statistics Polytechnic. The report reviewed the current SAE methods used to analyze indicators in the FSVA and for the Sustainable Development Goals data. Findings indicate that SAE at the sub-district level is technically feasible with adequate commitment to funding, resources, and partnerships. The report further recommends and outlines a sub-district SAE feasibility assessment.
• WFP and the Asian Development Bank shared the findings and recommendations from the jointly conducted Cost Analysis and Supply Chain Study and the WFP Rice Value Chain Study with the National Rice Fortification Technical Working Group. The studies’ findings included the opportunities for the introduction of fortified rice into commercial channels and government social protection programmes. Additionally, the studies’ highlighted the need for Government maintenance of fortified rice demand to ensure investment from rice millers, including through awareness campaigns. The meeting concluded with consensus among the working group members to utilise the studies for advocacy on postharvest fortified rice scale-up.
• WFP and the Ministry of National Development Planning convened government stakeholders to discuss lessons learned and follow up actions from the South-South and Triangular Cooperation visit between the Governments of Indonesia and Bangladesh in May. Stakeholders agreed to prioritise efforts on standardisation and engagement with social assistance schemes and the private sector to accelerate the scaling up of post-harvest fortified rice.
