SAR team searches for flash flood victims in Leuser

A search and rescue (SAR) team continues its search for the four residents reported missing after a flash flood struck a number of villages in Leuser district, Southeast Aceh regency, on Friday.

“We started to comb the river area to search for the four residents who went missing this morning,” Southeast Aceh SAR team head Juanda said Tuesday as quoted by Antara news agency.

Police personnel and soldiers were deployed to assist in the search.

Two residents were found dead after the flash flood hit the district, while hundreds of residents of Sepakat, Naga Timbul and Yang Pangi villages who were evacuated to Kutacane Stadium have been able to return home.

“Most of the evacuees have returned home to clean up and rebuild their homes,” Juanda said, adding that up to 70 houses were affected by the flash flood.

Access to the villages affected by the flash flood was restored after an emergency bridge was constructed. (swd)
