Resilient Together: Support for Training to Strengthen the Capacity of Local Innovators IDEAKSI 2.0

Yogyakarta – The IDEAKSI (Ideas, Innovation, Action, Inclusion) 2.0 has entered the sustainability phase until March 2025. IDEAKSI continues to be committed to accompanying and supporting local innovators in increasing the capacity and sustainability of their innovation. Of the 15 local innovators participating in the scale-up phase, 13 innovators continue to strive to maintain the sustainability of existing innovations.

As part of efforts to strengthen group capacity, a series of trainings have been held since November 2024 according to the specific needs of each local innovator group. This training activity received high enthusiasm from participants, not only for the benefit of the group but also for personal development, especially in disaster risk reduction.

IDEAKSI is supported by Elrha, Start Network, ADRRN Tokyo Innovation Hub, and funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). This program aims to empower local groups to create solutions to challenges in their respective communities.

Public Speaking Training

Public Speaking Training for members of the local innovator group Mitra Sejahtera Empowerment Center (PPDMS) was held on Tuesday, 12 November 2024, at Gunungkidul. This training aims to increase innovators' confidence in conveying their ideas and innovations.

This training includes a basic introduction to public speaking, effective speaking techniques, communication strategies, and public speaking practice. A total of 30 participants took part in this training, including innovators who developed PUTPATCAMAT (Putar Cepat Cari Selamat/Quick Turn To Save), an inclusive innovation for at-risk groups.

Business Planning Training

For groups of local innovators who focus on business development, both services and products, as well as market and production analysis, Business Planning Training has been held. Participants in this training came from Wanita Karya Women Group, Ngudi Makmur Farmer Group, Luhur Jiwa Self-Help Group, Melati Women Group, BonHargo, and Prima Gadung Youth Centre.

This training took place on Tuesday, 19 November 2024, with a total of 30 participants. The material presented includes market segmentation strategies, product marketing, and financing strategies. Apart from theory, participants also took part in hands-on practice sessions in developing business models that suit their innovation, as well as conducting case studies based on the experiences of their respective groups of innovators.

Organic Waste Management Training: Used Cooking Oil and Eco-Enzym

This training is aimed at supporting groups of innovators who focus on waste management. This activity was held at the Gempita Innovators Group and was attended by members from the Melati Women Farmer Group, Kebon Tirtohargo Tourism Group (BonHargo), and Murtigading DRR Forum.

This training aims to provide an understanding of the use of organic waste, such as vegetable and fruit waste which can be processed into eco-enzymes, as well as managing used cooking oil into useful bar soap.

A total of 36 participants took part in this training, including 17 representatives from Melat Women Farmer Groupi, Kebon Tirtohargo Tourism Group (BonHargo), and Murtigading DRR Forum as well as the community from Suryatmajan Village. Apart from getting theory, participants also took part in direct practice in making eco-enzymes and soap from used cooking oil, the results of which they can take home as economically valuable and environmentally friendly products.

Sphere Basic Training

This training is aimed at groups that focus on emergency response, such as Murtigading DRR Forum, Merapi Rescue Disaster-Alert Village, and Artha Mandiri Granary of Kemadang. This activity took place on Wednesday, 20 November 2024, and was attended by 18 participants.

The aim of this training is to ensure that the innovator group has the capacity for humanitarian response and action. This training does not only contain theory, but also includes simulations, such as using refugee post-location posters, making refugee plans, and analyzing refugee needs based on disaster scenarios provided by the facilitator.

Impact of Training

Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test evaluation, as many as 70% of participants showed an increase in understanding and skills after attending the training. Apart from being an opportunity to strengthen the capacity of innovator members, this training also helps increase self-confidence, sustainability of social enterprises, and disaster mitigation skills.

“This training helped us understand how to develop a community-based business. We are now more confident in managing our business so that it can survive in the long term," said one of the participants from SHG Luhur Jiwa.

IDEAKSI continues to strive to support local innovators in strengthening resilience actions, especially in reducing disaster risk through localization-based innovation.
