Last February, Qatar Charity carried out an urgent relief campaign for the victims of the floods that took place in Jakarta. That campaign included food and medical aid and emergency relief materials, in addition to psychological support.
Food aid items included rice, canned milk, macaroni, cooking oil, drinking water. Some 9440 persons benefited from the campaign. In addition to that, traditional Indonesian dresses and mattresses were distributed to 400 people. Distribution of aid was supervised by Qatar Charity and Indonesian Zakah House
Furthermore, Qatar Charity organized medical tests and medicines distribution in association with the Indonesian Red Crescent for around 2000 persons. In the same vein, Qatar Charity provided tents for sheltering patients since hospitals were crowded with the inflicted, especially pregnant women and babies who experienced severe shortage of nutrition. The Charity, also in association with Indonesian Zakah House, distributed 50 tubes and canes that are used in making boats in order to save the besieged. Some hundreds of people benefited from this kind of aid.
It is worth mentioning that Qatar Charity has formed a working team in order to explore the pressing needs of the inflicted areas. So, the team paid a visitation to the flooded areas and studied the probability of providing the inflicted with aid via rubber boats and plastic life jackets.
According to the Charity, the campaign will continue in the five areas which were badly ruined, especially the northern and eastern quarters of Jakarta. The Charity has approved a special program to fight malnutrition among pregnant women and children. This program consists of health care, medical tests and providing the beneficiaries with vitamins, nutrients, medicines and medical awareness.
By the way, Jakarta floods deepened the bad aftermaths of the catastrophe which took place in Sumatra.
