Maj-Inger Klingvall is to visit Indonesia and East Timor on 2-7 April.
This will be the first visit to Indonesia by a member of the Swedish Government since the change of government in Indonesia last year, when the country's first democratically elected government for 40 years came to power. The Minister for Development Cooperation is expected to meet Foreign Minister Shihab and other leading government officials. She will also visit a development project which receives Swedish support.
The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Indonesia, and Maj-Inger Klingvall is to inaugurate the Swedish Embassy's new offices.
The Minister for International Cooperation will then visit West Timor and the East Timorese refugees who are still there.
In East Timor the Minister for Development Cooperation will meet leading officials from the UN administration, East Timorese representatives and officials from various NGOs. As recently as 20 March this year Sweden made an additional contribution of SEK 40 million to the UN fund for the development of East Timor. Maj-Inger Klingvall will also meet Swedes who work in East Timor, for example. civilian police officers, military observers and UN personnel.
