Jakarta, Indonesia-Relief -- The opening ceremony for the partial completion of the West Coast Road Rehabilitation Project was held in Calang on October 4. Mr. Shin Ebihara, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, Director of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction NAD, and others dignitaries participated in the ceremony.
Japan has provided assistance for the rehabilitation of the West Coast Road which extends about 130 kilometers from Calang to Meulaboh. On October 4, the road between Calang and Teunom, extending 33 kilometers, was rehabilitated.
The Governments of Japan and Indonesia will continue to make efforts to expeditiously complete the rehabilitation of the West Coast Road, between Meulaboh and Teunom.
Since early tsunami, Japan has provided Grant assistance of USD 300 million (implemented or underway).
Bilateral Assistance (USD 160 million):
- Non-project grant aid, such as urgent recovery of the west coast road, recovery of water supply and sanitation system, etc (14 projects).
- JICA projects, including restoration of raw sewage processing facility in Banda Aceh, emergency rehabilitation and reconstruction plan for Banda Aceh etc. (USD 140 million).
Multilateral Assistance (USD 140 million):
- Contribution in response to UN flash appeal (approx. USD 120 million allocated for Aceh).
- Through World Bank and Asian Development Bank (USD 20 million).
