Indonesia: Yogyakarta Earthquake Humanitarian Fund collects almost $380,000 in 3 months

Nearly 380 thousand dollars ($379,028.50) was raised for the Earthquake Humanitarian Fund of Yogyakarta and its surrounding areas during the period of three months. The fund was set up on the first of June and ended on the 31st last month. The National Committee of the Earthquake Humanitarian Fund of Yogyakarta and its surrounding areas announced that the fund was officially closed as from Tuesday.

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Retired Major General Pehin Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohammad who's the Co-Advisor of the Fund, received the donations from various communities, government agencies, companies, private sectors and organisations in the country.

From that amount, 107 thousand 998 dollars were collected through the SMS Brunei Prihatin Project which ran for three months since 15th June until the 31st July, 2006. Meanwhile, DST Groups donated ten thousands dollars. Funds allocated at the mosques and suraus collected more than thirty thousands dollars. And the Ministry of Education including higher educational institutions in the country collected more than 24 thousand dollars.

Present at the ceremony was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Paduka Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal.
