Indonesia - Severe weather and floods (BNPB, BMKG) (ECHO Daily Flash of 04 April 2025)

  • Heavy rainfall and strong winds have been affecting Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi islands since 1 April, causing severe weather-related incidents and flooding that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • According to the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB), as of 3 April, three people have been severely injured in Sidoarjo regency, in East Java province, due to strong wind-related incidents, 44 buildings, housing 44 families, have been damaged. In the same province, 1,333 families across seven villages have been affected by floods. In South Sumatra province, 54 people have been displaced and 15 houses have been damaged by strong winds, while in South Sulawesi province floods have affected 999 people and 277 houses.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall is forecasted over the affected areas.
