Indonesia - Landslides and floods, update (BNPB, BMKG) (ECHO Daily Flash of 21 January 2025)

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting southern Indonesia since 19 January, triggering landslides and causing floods that have resulted in casualties and damage.
  • The Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) reports, as of 21 January, four fatalities, one missing, three injured people, and five damaged houses due to a landslide that occurred on 20 January in Ubung Kaja village, in North Denpasar district of the Denpasar City regency, in southern Bali province.
  • The death toll of the landslide that occurred on 19 January in Klungkung regency, in south Bali province, increased to four, one person is missing and four people have been injured. In addition, in the Bima regency of West Nusa Tenggara, 2,027 families and 2,112 houses in 11 villages have been affected by floods.
  • Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rainfall is still forecast over most parts of Indonesia.
