Heavy rainfall and strong winds since 6 July have been triggering landslides, causing floods and resulting in casualties and damage.

According to data from the East Java Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), a total of 1,038 individuals have been displaced due to mudflows of volcanic materials from the nearby Mount Semeru and floods as well as landslides in Lumajang District. The IFRC reports 3 deaths and 2,923 individuals affected due to the events. 3 houses, 6 bridges, and 13 public facilities are also reported damaged.

The local authorities have established command posts in the affected districts to assess the damage and coordinate the response. The Indonesian Red Cross has been responding to search and rescue operations and public kitchen services.
