Heavy rainfall has been affecting several parts of Indonesia since 13 January, triggering landslides and causing floods that have resulted in casualties and damage.
The Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) reports, as 15 January, at least 17 fatalities due to three different landslides, including two in North Sumatra province that caused 14 fatalities and 258 displaced people, and one in Tiban Batu Village of the Batam City, Riau Islands Province, western Indonesia that caused three fatalities, one missing person and five injured people. At least 341 people have been displaced and more than 7,500 people have been affected by floods across Aceh, North Sumatra and Riau provinces.
Over the next 48 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is still forecast for most of western and central Indonesia.
