Indonesia - Landslides and floods (BNPB, ADINet, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 09 July 2024)

  • On 7 July, a series of landslides caused by heavy rainfall and unstable soil conditions occurred in a gold mine located in Tulabolo village, Bone Bolango regency, Gorontalo province, northern Sulawesi Island, central Indonesia, leading to casualties and damage.
  • According to the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) and the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet), at least ten people died, 43 are still missing, 18 people have been injured and 100 others have been affected by the events.
  • Moreover, widespread floods have been recorded in different parts of Sulawesi. In South Bolaang Mongondow regency, North Sulawesi province, more than 3,500 people have been affected as well as more than 1,000 houses. In Luwu regency, South Sulawesi province, almost 2,500 people have been affected by floods and landslides.
  • For the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain with localized thunderstorms is forecasted across the affected provinces.
