The accident took place at Lembah Gumanti (Gumanti Valley), Nagari Air Dingin, Solok District, West Sumatra Province.

Background

The landslide is triggered by heavy rain over the last few days.

Casualties and Impact

As the local media report on 15 December 2006 the flood and landslide inundated 10 houses and a mosque. According to the officials, at least 17 people died and an unknown number of others were missing after a landslide swept over this remote village of West Sumatra Province.

Government Action

The Search and Rescue Teams, with support from the local residence, manually still continue the evacuation process.

On 15 December 2006, head of Solok District visited the affected area to monitor the situation.
