A landslide triggered by torrential rainfall and flash floods occurred on 16 May in West Papua province resulting in casualties and damage.
According to the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) and to media, as of 20 May, six people died, 14 are missing and four have been injured in a gold mine in Jim village of the Arfak Mountains Regency in north-western West Papua province. In addition, several roads have been damaged and the shelter for the workers has been destroyed.
Search and rescue operations are made difficult by severe weather.
Over the next 48 hours, more rainfall is forecast over West Papua province and heavy rainfall is forecast in central Indonesia.
