PMI Surabaya Crisis Center reported that flooding occurred since Monday night (1/31/2011). Rainfall is high enough at that time in the Surabaya City and caused the overflow of Lamong River. Water levels vary, ranging from 60 cm to 2 meters.
Tuesday yesterday (01/02/2011), rain continues to hit Surabaya City. "Floods are still inundating some areas of Sumber Rejo village, Pakal District, Surabaya City. From our monitoring at the site until Wednesday afternoon (2/2/2011), the water has not receded significantly. PMI Surabaya put its personnel and one ambulance unit in standby and to continue monitor on the flood flow at Lamong River, "said a PMI Surabaya Board Member Dr. Sukardji, from Pakal District, Surabaya City, on Wednesday evening (02/02/2011).
He added that this flood has submerged houses of 600 Families in KK Pakal Distric, Surabaya. The annual floods which frequently hit the region, making its resident not to panic too face the brunt of floods since two days ago. All people are still in their houses.
"As reported this afternoon, the water levels tend to rise to 1.5 meters. Residents have not been evacuated to safe refuge locations. If this evening the water level is getting worse, the plan is to evacuate the residents to Bung Tomo Football Field, "said Dr. Sukardji.
