Following recent rainfall on Java Island, a lahar event (a mud‑ or debris‑flow consisting of a mixture of pyroclastic material, debris, and water) occurred on 3 February on the western slope of Mount Merapi, which lies on the border between Central Java Province and the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
According to media reports, the lahar traveled down the Kali Senowo River, causing one fatality, four people missing, and six injured.
Search‑and‑rescue teams have been deployed in the affected area.
For the next three days, light to moderate rain with localized thunderstorms is forecast for Central Java Province and the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
