Indonesia: IOM hands over Dutch houses to tsunami survivors

Banda Aceh, Indonesia-Relief -- This Friday, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) handed over keys for newly constructed homes in Riverside village to the tsunami-devastated community of Dayahraya, in Baitassulam. The units are funded through the generosity of the Government of the Netherlands.

Aceh and Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR) Director Kuntoro Mangkusubroto will accompany the families as they dismantle their tents and relocate to their new homes in Riverside.

Following the move from temporary shelter into newly constructed homes in Riverside, BRR will host a forum for tsunami-affected communities to discuss housing issues with BRR and NGOs. BRR will encourage IDPs to raise concerns and questions with BRR Director Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, BRR housing experts, UN-Habitat, Habitat for Humanity, Jakum and Muslim Aid.

According to BRR, since the tsunami some 4,000 homes have been rebuilt in Aceh and Nias, with another 10,000 underway.=A9 che
