Indonesia: IHCP Situation Report #9 on Floods, Flash Floods, and Landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra provinces (14 January 2026)

Highlights

• As of January 14, 2026, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the number of displaced persons had decreased to 131,500. The death toll had reached 1,190, with 141 missing across the three provinces.

• The largest number of displaced persons was in Aceh Province, with 107,100 IDPs. In North Sumatra, 13,600 IDPs, and in West Sumatra, 10,900 IDPs.

• A total of 175,050 houses were damaged, with 54,412 severely damaged, 76,553 lightly damaged, and 45,085 moderately damaged. The number of damaged houses in Aceh reached 144,865, with 44,361 severely damaged. Meanwhile, 9,051 houses were severely damaged in North Sumatra and 2,993 in West Sumatra.

• In Aceh Province, as of January 14, 2026, acute respiratory infections (ARI) (18,538 cases) and skin diseases (14,356 cases) were the most frequently reported diseases. Attention is needed to address risk factors, such as exposure to contaminated water, poor environmental sanitation, overcrowding, and humidity, in IDP camps. Additionally, diarrhea (2,945 cases), influenza-like illness (ILI) (1,893 cases), suspected typhoid fever (318 cases), suspected measles (34 cases), suspected leptospirosis (1 case), and suspected dengue (13 cases) were reported.
