  • As of January 7, 2026, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that the number of IDPs had decreased to 238,478. The death toll had reached 1,178, with 147 people missing in the three provinces. • The largest number of IDPs was in Aceh Province, with 214,084 IDPs. In North Sumatra, 13,540 people were displaced, and in West Sumatra, 10,854 were displaced.
  • 32 districts/cities have declared a transition from emergency to recovery status (7 in Aceh, 13 in North Sumatra, and 12 in West Sumatra). Nine districts/cities in Aceh remain in emergency response status, while two districts/cities in North Sumatra are in the process of declaring a transition from emergency to recovery status.
  • In Aceh Province, as of January 7, 2026, acute respiratory infections (ARI) (17,756 cases) and skin infections (13,891 cases) were the most frequently reported diseases, necessitating a focus on risk factors such as exposure to dirty water, poor environmental sanitation, and overcrowding and humidity in evacuation centers. Additionally, diarrhea (2,828 cases), influenza-like illness (ILI) (1,882 cases), suspected typhoid fever (306 cases), suspected measles (31 cases), suspected leptospirosis (1 case), and suspected dengue (13 cases) were reported. • An Assessment of the Needs of High-Risk Groups Affected by Floods and Landslides in Sibolga City and Central Tapanuli Regency revealed that at-risk groups, particularly people with disabilities and the elderly, still face significant limitations in accessing humanitarian assistance and basic services. Specific needs, particularly for people with disabilities and the elderly, remain unmet, and violence and mistreatment occur during the aid access process.
  • The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a warning of potential moderate to heavy rainfall on January 6–7, 2026, in several districts/cities in Aceh and North Sumatra, as well as West Pasaman in West Sumatra.
