On 7 January 2026, a severe flood event following heavy rain affected North Halmahera regency, North Maluku province, central-eastern Indonesia, resulting in fatalities, displacement, and infrastructure damage.
According to the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB), as of 8 January, one person was killed, more than 282 people were evacuated from Tegowa village, and a total of 5 333 people have been affected.
Additionally, 20 housing units are severely damaged, three units are moderately or slightly damaged, and a total of 1 216 housing units have been flooded. Several bridges and road access have been cut off in multiple locations.
On 9-11 January, cloudy skies with light rain are expected across the affected province.
