Indonesia - Floods (BMKG, IFRC) (ECHO Daily Flash of 4 June 2025)

  • Since the end of May, East Kalimantan province has been experiencing heavy rainfall, causing the Karang Mumus, Mahakam, Sempaja, Segah, and Pinang rivers to overflow. This has resulted in widespread flooding across Samarinda City, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, and Berau Regency.
  • According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), two people have died in Samarinda City and two others are reported missing in the affected province. In addition, more than 2,500 people have been affected, including 1,859 in Kutai Kartanegara Regency, 640 in Berau Regency, and six in Samarinda. More than 700 houses have been damaged as well as seven schools.
  • Over the next 48 hours, light rain with localised thunderstorms is expected across the affected areas.
