Indonesia - Floods and landslides, update (BNPB, BMKG) (ECHO Daily Flash of 10 December 2024)

  • Since 3 December, heavy rainfall has continued to affect Java islands, particularly West Java province, causing floods and landslides, and the number of casualties and damage is increasing.
  • The National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) reports ten fatalities and two missing people in the Sukabumi regency, in the West Java province, as of 10 December. At least 3,064 people have been displaced, and a total of 10,160 people across 172 villages have been affected.
  • Search and rescue operations are still ongoing for the two missing people in Sirnasari and Rambay villages, local authorities are providing assistance to those affected.
  • On 10-11 December, more heavy rainfall is still forecast over western Java island.
