Indonesia - Floods and landslides (BMKG, BNPB, BNPB, ADINet) (ECHO Daily Flash of 05 December 2024)

  • In the past few days, heavy rainfall has been affecting the Sumatra and Java islands particularly, causing floods, triggering landslides, and resulting in casualties and damage.
  • According to the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB), two people died and another was injured in Talagasari Village, Cianjur regency, West Java province on 3 December due to a landslide.
  • Another landslide occurred in Lebak regency, Banten province and resulted in one death and one injured person. In the same province, widespread floods and landslides resulted in 1,253 affected families. Moreover, a total of 1,717 houses were affected by floods in Cilacap Regency, Central Java province. Furthermore, more than 4,000 people have been impacted by floods in Binjai, North Sumatra province.
  • For the next 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast over Java island while moderate to locally heavy rain is expected across north-western Sumatra.
