Indonesia - Floods (ADINet, BMKG) (ECHO Daily Flash of 20 August 2024)

  • Heavy rainfall and strong winds have been affecting Sumatra Island in south-western Indonesia since 18 August, causing floods and river overflow that resulted in population displacement and damage.
  • As of 19 August, the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet) reports 670 displaced people, 1,362 affected people and 339 affected houses in Aceh Jaya regency in Aceh province (northern Sumatra Island), and 2,400 affected people in Nias Utara regency in North Sumatra province.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy rainfall is forecast over northern Sumatra Island.
