Indonesia: Flood inundates houses along Ciliwung river

Flood waters have inundated dozens of homes along the Ciliwung river in East Jakarta, forcing thousands of residents to evacuate to higher ground, tempointeraktif.com has reported.

As of Saturday afternoon, between 70 and 100 centimeters of water has submerged 79 homes belonging to 1,410 residents living in the Bukit Duri, Kebon Baru, Kampung Melayu and Bidara Cina subdistricts.

"Residents are now staying in 14 camps scattered throughout Kampung Melayu and Bidara Cina districts," a member of Natural Disaster Mitigation task force (Satkorlak), Basuki, said Saturday.

Meanwhile, the water level at the Manggarai floodgate is now at 775 centimeters, still in the alert status range, while the level at the Katulampa floodgate in Bandung stands at 80 centimeters, within normal conditions. (ewd)
