Indonesia: Dozens of houses buried in Lombok after landslide

Dozens of houses were buried under dirt from a landslide in Mekar Sari village, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Saturday afternoon following heavy rain, no one was killed in the incident, kompas.com reported.

"According to our temporary recording, there are 19 houses buried under the dirt in Erat Mate area. We still don't know how much in Malaka area. The investigation will be carried out tomorrow. It's to dark now," Mekar Sari village chief Mahri said.

Mahri said all villagers who had lost their houses were evacuated temporarily to their neighbors. The evacuation process also included moving cattle to a safer area, he said.

Apart from burying the houses, the landslide also marred an access to the village with a mix of mud, water and stones that stretch for two kilometers.

Mahri said the village was handling the situation by itself and hoping for the local government to soon help.
