On August 9 the Amoryllis ship arrived at the seaport of Jakarta, delivering 20,000 tons of Russian wheat to Indonesia. The grain is intended for the population of Indonesia's Aceh province, hit by the tsunami on December 26, 2004. This cargo is part of the humanitarian aid being provided by the Russian side to the Government of Indonesia since the start of the current year.
An official handing-over ceremony of the humanitarian grain to the Indonesian side took place at the Russian embassy in Indonesia on August 10. To attend the ceremony, a Russian EMERCOM delegation led by V. A. Shuikov, deputy director of the EMERCOM Department of International Activity, had arrived in Indonesia. Alwi Shihab, Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare, in his remarks at the ceremony, expressed sincere gratitude on behalf of the Government of Indonesia to the Government and people of Russia for the aid.
In the course of the ceremony eleven Indonesian citizens who had actively helped carry out the Russian humanitarian relief operation in Aceh were presented with the EMERCOM medal "To Participant of Emergency Humanitarian Operations."
