  • As of 16 December, BNPB reported 103 people to have died because of the incident, where 97 bodies positively identified in all affected districts i.e. Pidie, Pidie Jaya and Biereun.

  • A total of 932 individuals were injured and 88,133 people displaced.

  • Infrastructure damages are 7,814 houses, 107 mosques and other facilities such as schools, bridges and roads.

  • AHA Centre has sent the second ERAT team to Pidie Jaya, consist of 4 personnel.

  • A total of 181 governmental and non-governmental agencies have responded the situation and provided assistance to the victims.

2. SUMMARY OF DISASTER EVENT

A 6.5 M Earthquake shook Sigli City, Aceh Province, Indonesia at 05:03 (UTC +7) with a shallow depth of 10 km. No Tsunami warning was issued. The earthquake was felt strongly in Pidie,
Pidie Jaya and the surrounding districts. Based on the National Statistics Bureau (BPS), the total population in Pidie District is around 425,974 while in Pidie Jaya District, it is 151,472. Based on the record of the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet), the area had been affected by earthquakes in the past. The most recent was in October 2013, when a 5.6 M earthquake shook Pidie District.

As of 16 December, the National Disaster Management Authority of Indonesia (BNPB) reported that the death toll is 104 with 97 bodies positively identified in all affected districts i.e. Pidie,
Pidie Jaya and Biereun. The report also mentioned a total of 932 individuals were injured and 88,133 people displaced. Additionally, the infrastructure damages include 7,814 houses, 107 mosques and other facilities such as schools, government buildings and bridges.

The situation in the affected sites has been gradually improving. The markets are open with more shops back to the business. The electricity is back to normal in Pidie Jaya, so as the mobile telecommunication network. Roads are being repaired and bridges are being assessed for reconstruction. The debris cleaning is ongoing progressively in many areas. Coordination meeting in the morning and evaluation meeting in the afternoon are continously held by the local government and BNPB in order to synergize the relief efforts from all government agencies and responding humanitarian organisations.

During the coordination meeting, the BNPB recommended to take some priority actions before the emergency response ended and in order to prepare the next phase of recovery and reconstruction. The recommended priorities are to accelerate the assessment and data verification of the damage houses, public facilities (schools, mosques and hospitals) and infrastructures.

In total, there 181 are governmental and non-govermental (NGO/In-Country INGO) agencies that have been responded and provided assistance to the earthquake victims since the first day
